Musculoskeletal Syndrome
Wow. Who knew your aches and pains - and even chronic tendon conditions - could be attributed to the menopause? More than 70% of us will suffer from musculoskeletal symptoms as we transition from perimenopause to menopause as our oestrogen levels drop. Astonishingly, very frequently there is no structural reason for this pain - no tissue damage is present to explain why our bodies are so sore. But these issues can be accompanied by loss of bone mass and loss of muscle mass so it's vitally important that instead of sitting at home thinking we're too sore to move, we need to be able to keep exercising - or start exercising if it's not been part of our routine before.

Massage can help relieve these symptoms allowing you the space to explore what exercise can help you move into the next life stage in a healthy and happy way.
Psychological benefits underpinned by science
While the list of physical symptoms associated with the perimenopause and menopause is extensive, we can't underestimate the mental load that this period of our lives can have.

And the benefits of menopause massage extend far beyond the purely physical! The emotional benefits might be even more important, with studies confirming the impact massage has on mood, sense of wellbeing, anxiety, depression and insomnia. Clients say they feel more relaxed and calmer after treatment and quality of sleep improves. Massage helps reduce levels of cortisol, (the stress hormone) while at the same time increasing levels of the happy hormone, dopamine. This rebalancing of hormones boosts the body’s ability to fight off pain and anxiety.

So if you’re feeling a bit tired and achy, a bit stressed and depressed or fed up with just feeling a bit sore all the time, book in for your first treatment today to see how menopause massage can help with a multitude of different concerns.

My own menopause was a nightmare!
I'd have loved to have had access to a massage targeted specifically at my symptoms. Physically, I wasn't too bad but I was an emotional wreck, lost all my self confidence and had no ability to retain even basic information. I don't think massage would have cured everything but it certainly would have been in my toolkit of things that helped. My sleep was horrific - it's a bit better now - but it's so hard to function when you've spent hours lying ruminating on how hopeless everything is!

Some women are not so lucky and have physical challenges in addition to the mental load. Recent studies are identifying something they're calling 'musculoskeletal syndrome' which helps link falling oestrogen levels and aches, pains and injuries. As if that wasn't enough, women over 40, are much more likely to suffer from gluteal tendinopathy - or greater trochanteric syndrome - than younger women or men.

Massage can absolutely help with these ongoing physical symptoms - which can range from annoying to life-limiting, helping your body to feel better and move better... and if you can improve your sleep then you're going to be way more likely to move more, which is vital to aging well.
